The ATO dont send emails, so dont respond to the latest scam doing the rounds….ATO SCAM ALERT
A number of Morris Accounting clients have received the latest email scam doing the rounds. It is a sham email that claims to offer a refund from the Tax Office.
The email uses the Tax Office logo and the words 'Tax refund online!' in the subject heading and the
following text:
"Tax refund online!
After the last annual calculation of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of AUD 452. Please submit the tax refund and allow us 2-5 business days in order to process it."
There may be more variations to this subject heading, text and the "refund" amount.
DO NOT click on the link within the email as this goes to a fake Tax Office website that asks for credit card and personal details that may be used to fraudulently access your accounts.
If you are sent this email DELETE it immediately. Tax Commissioner Michael D'Ascenzo has advised that the Tax Office never sends emails asking people to provide personal information including credit card details. If you have entered your credit card information on the website, immediately report it to your credit card provider.
More information on each of these articles is available from Morris Accounting or www.ato.gov.au.
